garfield is a cartoon character from a comic; named after himself. he is the protagonist, where he and his owner jon arbuckle get themselves into situations. mundane, eccentric, or otherwise fiendish; garfield remains there always.

he has been given several appearances in games, mostly remakes of previous titles with a garfield-themed spin. the notorious ones being garfield kart. garfield kart is a title very similar to games like mario kart, where you go through several locations throughout the garfield franchise as circuit courts, racing your way through them competing against characters from the franchise. it crashed my pc once.
garfield has become subject to many internet horrors. notoriously, "i'm sorry jon" or otherwise sometimes known as gorefield, is a concept formed by certain artists. the idea is garfield is something beyond our comprehension, a gluttonous eldritch deity. a psychologically mind-breaking, all powerful god amongst men; lover of lasagna and a beast of sin. tamed only by his owner, jon arbuckle, a whimpering coward at the thought of his beloved pet being such a monstrous creature.
oftentimes it is gruesome, taking on a psychologically mind-breaking front as garfield resumes his angelic form to his beloved owner. sometimes however, it does not need to be such a unholy tale. people have taken affection to this beast; and shaped him from such an eldritch fiend to an eldritch friend. a beast beyond my, yours, or any of ours comprehension; tamed by one man, jon arbuckle. slightly less of a coward; and more of an understanding friend to his otherworldly cat.
